Tjanpi (pronounced ‘J-um-Py’) Desert Weavers is the dynamic arts enterprise of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council, an organisation supporting Aboriginal women living in remote communities in the tri-state region of WA, NT and SA. Tjanpi (meaning ‘dry grass’) evolved from a series of basket-weaving workshops initiated by the NPY Women’s Council in 1995.
Adding a contemporary spin to the traditional, women now create baskets, vessels and an astonishing array of vibrant sculptures. Tjanpi is sold nationally and internationally through reputable galleries as well as through our retail outlet in Alice Springs.
