Established in 1971, Papunya Tula Artists is privately owned and directed by 49 Aboriginal shareholders, most of whom are practicing artists residing in the Western Desert communities of Kintore and Kiwirrkura. From an initial group of around 30 artists who were the founders of the Central and Western Desert art movement, the company has grown to now represent more than 120 artists.
